MI Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Announces Preventative Plans To Combat Coronavirus

After confirming 2 local cases of the world-wide spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19), Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced a series of preventive measures recommended by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, to help slow the spread of the disease. "I'm calling on businesses to support their employees, said Whitmer, to stay home when they need to."

Governor Whitmer is also calling for universities, schools, and childcare facilities must "be flexible" and consider "tele-learning" if possible. Whitmer also encourages schools and childcare facilities to limit large gatherings such as assemblies, after school scheduling, recess time.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is also encouraging everyone to avoid large gatherings of 100 people or more. "Groups should evaluate and make decisions about whether not to cancel conferences, sporting events, and concerts" said Whitmer in a press conference.

Best Practices to Prevent the Spread

1: Washing hands often, and counting to twenty while washing with soap and warm-water.

2: Practice touching your face less-often

3: Replace handshakes with elbow-bumps

4: Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough with your arm.

"Even if you are healthy and A-Symptomatic, you can unknowingly be carrying and spreading the disease", says Whitmer.
