Two Doctors Celebrate Wedding Ceremony At Hospital They Both Work At

Celebrating holidays and birthdays with family and friends is a recipe for love and success in creating a memorable moments. Recent wedding plans and events of large gatherings came to an immediate halt, as the spread of the coronavirus forced families to stay home and social distance.

While most engaged couples are coming up with non-traditional ways to exchange their vowels, two North Carolina doctors working during the coronavirus pandemic celebrated their wedding day with an impromptu ceremony at the hospital where they both work.

Dr. Shelun Tsai, an OBGYN resident at Duke University Hospital, and Dr. Michael Sun, a resident in Duke Psychiatry’s program, originally planned to get married on Saturday, April 11th with family and friends present. But because of COVID-19 social distancing measures the couple took action to save the date. With willing hospital colleagues as wedding party participants and the Zoom social media app, the newly weds shared their special moment with family and friends.

"It was absolutely amazing," Tsai said of her commemorative ceremony. "Every day I feel like we take care of our patients and we’re always so thoughtful and love what we do and to see that [my colleagues] also care so much about us and the things that mean so much to us, it was really touching."

"They’re really my work family and we really try to take care of each other," she said.

The two college love-birds are hopeful for a rescheduled official wedding date sometime in October, hopefully life as we know goes back to normal. For now, thats money saved on a huge wedding reception that can now go toward a house-house.
