Detroit, MI - Friday June 22, one of the best women’s boxing cards ever will take place at the Masonic Temple in Detroit, when three unified champions headline the night on the Showtime telecast.
In the main event, unified Super Middleweight Champion Claressa Shields steps in the ring against unified Jr Middleweight Champion Hannah Gabriels, with the winner taking the WBA and IBF Middleweight titles home.
Shields, the WBC and IBF super middleweight champion, considers herself the face of women's boxing after winning two Olympic gold medals -- she's the only American, male or female, to accomplish that feat -- and she feels a responsibility to raise the profile of the sport every time she steps into the ring.
In the co-feature, unified Middleweight Champion Christina Hammer challenges former three-time champion Tori Nelson for the WBC and WBO Middleweight titles.
The event, promoted by Dmitriy Salita’s Salita Promotions, is another big step forward in the advancement of women’s boxing and women’s sports.
Women’s boxing is enjoying a great burst, with a number of major networks televising fights and a much-increased level of media coverage occurring.
I hope you have an opportunity to join us in Detroit for the live event, and if you cannot be there I hope you will tune in to Showtime and support this night as another step forward in the history-making journey in women’s boxing.
