Say it ain't so!

Both Cardi B and Post Malone have been ruled ineligible for Best New Artist at the 2019 Grammy Awards. Despite both rappers having breakout years in 2018, the two will not be able to be nominated for the legendary award, which has been awarded to some of the biggest names in music including: Bon Iver, Sam Smith, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, and Mariah Carey.

In Cardi's case, her ineligibility is due to the fact that she was nominated for multiple awards at the 2018 Grammys. According to the Associated Press, "The Grammys, which has adjusted the rules of best new artist over the years to keep up with the changing musical landscape, state that 'any artist with a previous Grammy nomination as a performer' would not qualify."

As for Post's reasons of ineligibility, the AP reported that the "Psycho" rapper, who was submitted for best new artist for the 2018 Grammys, actually met the criteria for the 2019 award, however, at "a Grammy nominations meeting held this month his inclusion in the category was met with debate," a source told the site. Post's ability to be seen as a new artist reportedly came down to a vote, which he lost, by the music industry's elite. Some felt are said to have felt that he had such success with his 2016 debut album Stoney he "had already past new artist status."

The first round of voting for the 2019 Grammy nominations begins on October 17, and nominees will be announced on December 5th. The 2019 Grammys are set to air on February 10.
