Michigan is full of stunning cities, towns, and landscapes praised by travelers around the world, so to be named the "best must-visit small town" in the entire state is a pretty big deal.

Be it close-knit community feels or bountiful local activities, something about this charming location landed it on Thrillist's list of the best small towns to visit across the country, and today, we're going to discuss why.

Per the list, the best small town to visit in Michigan is Saugatuck. Saugatuck houses 865 people and is known for its sand dunes, light houses, and sunsets among other stunning qualities.

Here's what Thrillist had to say about the best must-visit small town in the entire state:

"Michigan’s 3,000+ miles of coastline are home to dozens of dreamy lake towns as entrancing as they are interchangeable. And while any number of Lake Michigan towns could make this list, our heart remains in Saugatuck. An easy (and gorgeous) drive from Chicago, Indianapolis, and Detroit, Saugatuck has become an ‘Art Coast’ overflowing with galleries; a dining paradise where The Southerner and farm-to-table hotspot Pennyroyal bring James Beard cred; and an LGBTQIA+ havenfull of queer-friendly resorts, bars, and even a cabaret revue. Crucially, unlike other hyped-up towns on the coast, Saugatuck has reinvented itself without losing sight of what made it lovely to begin with. Those Beard restaurants coexist with mom and pop breakfast joints."
