A 15-year-old Orion Township boy is hospitalized in critical condition after police say he was shot in the head by his best friend Saturday night in Pontiac.
“The victim and suspect are best friends and detectives are trying to determine if this was an accidental discharge of the weapon,” the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said in an incident report. “The incident remains under investigation.”
The teen was unconscious in a bedroom when deputies arrived at the 100 block of Wall Street. He was first taken to McLaren Oakland hospital in Pontiac and has since been transported to Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, the report said.
Deputies said his friend, a 14-year-old Pontiac boy, shot him with a .32-caliber handgun that was located in the backyard of a neighboring property. That teen was taken to Oakland County Children’s Village, the report said.
Detectives spoke to three juveniles who were at the home when the shooting took place as part of the investigation.
No additional details were available as of Sunday afternoon.
