Authorities raided a building in the 1200 block of Green, in southwest Detroit, as part of an investigation into suspected cockfighting and illegal gambling.
More than 100 roosters were seized and turned over to the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
“Those roosters have been humanely euthanized,” said Jennifer Holton, a spokeswoman for the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The Raid
About 140 federal, state and local law enforcement officials descended on the area in Detroit as part of the ongoing criminal investigation that has spanned several months, said Khaalid Walls, a spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
He said 86 people were inside the building when a search warrant was executed by multiple jurisdictions.
“We made approximately 50 administrative arrests for individuals who were in violation of immigration law,” he said Sunday. “And those individuals will be detained in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.”
