Senate Unanimously Approves Proposal To "Cancel" Daylight Saving Time

Daylight saving time. Spring Forward. Fall Back. It's the "losing one-hour of sleep" for me. Then again, I never really understood the exact significance of the time-change. Selfishly, I just enjoyed an extra hour to get paid as a nightclub DJ. The legit reason was for early risers to get an hour of daylight in the mornings during the months of November through February. Another positive takeaway is that there would be more daylight for high school outdoor sports.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate unanimously approved a proposal to "cancel" daylight saving time. If passed in the house and signed by President Biden, Americans would never again have to set their clocks back an hour or lose an hour of afternoon daylight in the fall and winter.

“In a country we desperately want our kids outside, playing, doing sports, not just to sit in front of a TV playing video games all day. It gets tough in many parts of the country to be able to do that. What ends up happening is for the 16 weeks of the year, if you don’t have a park or outdoor facility with lights, you’re basically shut down at 5 p.m., in some cases 4 p.m.,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), the lead sponsor of the proposal.

I'm no politician, but I feel like it the right thing to do. *shrug* Besides, I'm still sleepy from the time change.
