Niece Sabrina Owens says it was something that just happened and hadn't been thought about by Franklin's family, adding changing her outfits seemed like a natural thing to do. At a forum at Wayne State University discussing the coverage of Franklin's funeral by the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News, Owens added there was no meaning or intent behind the wardrobe changes, and people made a bigger deal of it than what it was.
