ย Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer says a female-led reboot is in the works for 'Pirates of the Caribbean', thusย ย Johnny Depp is unlikely to return to theย franchise. Margot Robbie is set to play the lead role. While it's no secret that Johnny would not be reprising his iconic character Captain Jack Sparrow in light of what he's revealed in his ongoing divorce battle with ex-wife Amber Heard this month, Jerry revealed in an interview with The Sunday Times' Culture magazine that Disney is taking the franchise in a new direction moving forward.
"Not at this point," Jerry said when asked if fans could expect Johnny to return in the future by the outlet. "The future is yet to be decided" he said.ย He was also asked if there was any truth to the notion that an all-female cast was being considered for a possible reboot, to which he replied,ย โYes. We are talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts โ one with her, and one without.โ
Rumors swirled a year ago when Robbie first noted the female reboot would be alot of girl power. At the time, Depp fans didn't receive the news well and demanded Disney bring back Depp. Now, with Depp stating in court he would never go back to Disney, fans may feel differently.
