How Breakfast fueled Dr Darrius' 90-day transformation

Transformation Tuesday

Starting my 90-day transformation challenge, I quickly learned how important it was to start the morning off with a good healthy breakfast. Most people's excuses are not having enough time to cook in the morning, while getting ready for the day. I'm not sure how long you spend in the bathroom fixing yourself every morning, but I can almost guarantee you’ll spend fewer time fixing yourself in the kitchen.

If breakfast is commonly recognized as the most important meal of the day, why do most people skip it?  According to the American Dietetic Association, children who eat breakfast perform better in the classroom and on the playground, with better concentration, problem-solving skills, and eye-hand coordination.

Without breakfast, people can get irritable, restless, and tired. Apart from providing us with energy, breakfast foods are good sources of important nutrients such as calcium, iron and B vitamins as well as protein and fibre. The body needs these essential nutrients and research shows that if these are missed at breakfast, they are less likely to be compensated for later in the day.

My day starts at 8AM. Get dressed, wake my three boys, then head to the kitchen. On average, it takes me 5-8 minutes to prepare a simple carb, and protein breakfast. 1 Cup of Oatmeal, with (8) Egg Whites, and 2 chicken sausages helps fuel my 10am workout . The boys normally like to eat at school, but too get they're dose of apples cinnamon oatmeal.

Those who skip breakfast tends to over-eat for lunch, the ides sets in, and now your sleepy. A good breakfast should satisfy your appetite for at least 3 hours, then your ready for a nice balanced lunch.

In your transformation, lets try to switch up your breakfast habits.  Here are my go-to breakfast foods that cost me less than $15 per week to eat healthy.

(2) Al Fresco Chicken Sausage

(1) cup of Cream of Rice or Oatmeal

(8) Egg whites or 2 Eggs
