Detroit Youth Choir gifted $1 million endowment and key to the city

"America's Got Talent" Season 14 Live Show Red Carpet

The Detroit Youth Choir came second on this season’s "America's Got Talent,” while simultaneously stealing the hearts of viewers across the country and uniting the Motor City.

Despite winning second place, the choir received a deserving $1 million, courtesy of an endowment fund created by the Detroit City Council and a few Michigan-based businesses.

Along with the $1 million, Mayor Mike Duggan gifted the youth choir a key to the city, according to the Detroit News. Each choir member was given a replica key for their homes.

The choir received these gifts at their homecoming celebration at Campus Martius on Sept. 20. The downtown celebration highlighted the achievements of Anthony White, the choir’s director, and the 52 choir students after an outstanding-season performance on AGT.

“What this key means is that the City of Detroit is always your home,” Duggan said during the event.

The choir is also scheduled to perform at this year's America's Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit.
