Grocery Stores Request Personal Protection Equipment For Employees

Kroger employee sanitizing shopping carts for shoppers

Leaving your home for essential food items are essentially dangerous during this COVID-19 pandemic. Shoppers, following social distancing measures to prevent the spread, are lining up with their own protection gear to fill up their shopping carts. What about the employees?

United Commercial Food Workers President Marc Perrone said 30 union members across the country have died from coronavirus as of Monday. Four of those workers were from Michigan Kroger stores.

“For the public to change its behavior, this is not union versus non-union, nor is it about politics or party,” Perrone said. “This is about life or death. Workers are being exposed and they are dying.”

The union is also asking the White House COVID-19 task force for personal protection equipment for their workers, who are essentially on the frontline to customers.

To help protect frontline workers, Perrone is asking customers to take these extra precautionary measures before going shopping:

  • Take your temperature before leaving their home.
  • Continue to wearing a mask and gloves.
  • Following social distancing inside stores and properly disposing of their masks and gloves when they are finished using them.
  • Be patient
