Today on The Breakfast Club we were joined by the founders of Black Voters Matter, LaTosha Brown & Cliff Albright. The two stopped by to talk about why black votes matter, how they got started, how we can hold our politicians accountable + more!
A big focus of today's conversation with LaTosha and Cliff was, of course, the importance of Black Voters utilizing their power as a voter for change. Expressing that while they don't believe voting itself will lead to black liberation alone, it's still important that as we try to gain power we must utilize every lane that is available to us.
"We gotta fight, we really gotta recognize what this is about, part of the work that we're doing, we're telling people we're honest about voting, our name is Black Voters Matter but we're the first to tell you that voting is not going to lead to black liberation by itself. But we do believe that as a tool and for people who are struggling and seeking to gain power you gotta use everything available, we're leaving nothing on the table, even part of the work we're doing it's about saying go get your power, this is an organizing opportunity for us to literally get black people to think about our power, our agency, and our governance if we're going to build something different we need to think about governance"
