20 years ago Eminem’s life totally changed when he dropped the Slim Shady LP. The album sold 18 Million world wide and made Em and international super star.
When looking back 3 to 4 years before the Slim Shady LP I met Em in the lobby of the radio station. He was cool quiet kid passing out his cassettes. He never pushed me to play his record, he just appreciated the time that I gave him. In my earlier years of radio I would get dope artist like Em to do rap intros for me and the first one you almost don’t recognize it’s him.
A few years later he did another one and you can hear Slim Shady all over it.
People always ask me do you talk to Em. We have a mutual respect for one another and I’m proud to call him my friend. We don’t speak often but, we always look out for one another, for example me being allowed to play myself in the movie 8 Mile. Or me getting a bunch of text messages that Marshall is talking about you on Shady 45.
Or hosting a movie screening for South Paw where he did the sound track. Eminem is one of the coolest guys I’ve met in my radio career and his music will live forever!
